Members, and friends of Legion Branch 29, October is shaping up to be a busy and meaningful month at our Legion, and I’m pleased to share what’s coming up. Our 100th Anniversary celebrations are underway with an exhibit running from September 28 through October 2. Under the theme ‘Stitches, Strength and Steel’, we are highlighting the contributions of women during the Second World War. Through a series of displays, visitors can learn about their work on the home front and the strength they brought to our community. It’s a fitting way to mark a century of service and remembrance at Branch 29. Please mark your calendars for these upcoming events:
Looking ahead, we’re looking forward to a solid fall and winter of activities. Euchre, darts and cornhole are starting up and will run through the colder months—good fun and a chance to support the Legion at the same time. On the practical side, downtown construction is expected to wrap up in early October. Once complete, the improved traffic flow should help bring more people to the Legion. I also want to recognize our long-serving members. Various awards were recently presented and covered in the Ayr News and the Paris Independent. Congratulations to Doreen Keeton on receiving a 70-year pin (on behalf of her husband, the late Bud Keeton), and to past president Andy Moran on his 50-year pin, along with the many others who were honoured. Your years of dedication mean a great deal to this Branch. None of this would be possible without the support of our community partners. Special thanks go to the Canadian Military Heritage Museum, the County of Brant, Public Works, our seniors’ groups, Canadian Tire, John Bell, Adelaide Hunter Hoodless, Queensview, Telfer Place, the Paris Museum, and many others who have helped make these events and improvements possible. I encourage everyone to take part in the anniversary displays, the music night, the Meet and Greet, and the regular activities that keep our Legion strong. See you there! Lest we forget.
